TaxStayTracker: A Clearer Record of Your Travel Days

Meet TaxStayTracker for iPhone and iPad: build a reviewable country-stay history, check day counts, and export PDF or CSV records with local-first privacy.

The Simple Question That Becomes Difficult

Where were you, and when? For anyone who lives, works, or travels across countries, that question can become surprisingly hard to answer over a full year. Dates are scattered across calendars, booking confirmations, photos, flight records, and memory. Reconstructing them only when an adviser asks is slow, and the result is difficult to review.

TaxStayTracker for iPhone and iPad was built to turn those fragments into one country-stay history. It records the facts behind a travel timeline: countries, dates, day counts, corrections, and supporting context. It does not make a tax or residency decision for the user.

That distinction is important. A familiar threshold such as 183 days can be useful context, but tax residency, visa status, and other legal conclusions may also depend on treaties, personal ties, local definitions, and facts that no calendar can capture. The app helps organise a record so it can be checked; official authorities and qualified professionals remain the source for current rules and advice.

One Travel Record, Two Deliberate Roles

Travel-day tracking happens in real life, not at a desk. On iPhone, stays can be added manually at any time. Users may also enable optional location tracking and grant permission for the app to help maintain their country history in the background. Tracking can be paused, and manual entry remains available without location permission.

The iPad experience has a different purpose. Its wider workspace is designed for reviewing stays, comparing annual totals, making manual changes, planning, exploring maps, and preparing exports. Automatic location tracking remains an iPhone role. The separation keeps capture practical while giving review work more room.

For people who want the same supported travel records on both devices, optional iCloud Sync can be enabled separately on each one. It uses the private CloudKit database associated with the user's Apple Account. Sync is off by default, and because changes and deletions can propagate, it should not be treated as a backup.

From a Day Count to a Reviewable History

A useful travel record needs more than a number on a dashboard. TaxStayTracker connects annual country totals to the individual stays behind them. Users can inspect travel days, review tracking coverage, add past trips, correct dates, and resolve overlapping records without rebuilding the entire history.

The app also brings related context into the same workflow. Maps provide a geographic view of the timeline. Flights and photos can support a user's own review. Visa-day tools, country references, airport information, and residency guides add orientation, while making clear that current requirements must be verified with official sources.

The day-count model is designed around stored local calendar dates. Completed stays do not move into another calendar year simply because the user later changes time zone, and overlapping periods are not counted twice in overall totals. These details are quiet, but they matter when a record covers months, countries, and repeated journeys.

Corrections Are Part of the Product

Location assistance is useful, but no automatic system captures every real journey perfectly. A device may be switched off. Permission may be paused. A same-day trip may need context. An older journey may only be added after the fact.

TaxStayTracker therefore treats review and correction as normal parts of the workflow. Users can add historical and planned stays manually, edit existing entries, and work through date conflicts. The goal is not to hide uncertainty behind automation. It is to make the travel record understandable and correctable by the person who knows the journey.

Reports for Further Review

When the history needs to leave the app, TaxStayTracker can create PDF or CSV reports for a year, a month, or a custom date range. A PDF provides a readable summary for personal records or discussion with a qualified adviser. CSV keeps the underlying data available for spreadsheet-based review and further analysis.

An export is a useful working record, not an official determination. Users should keep original travel documents where required and should not rely on the app as the only copy of evidence.

Local by Default, Cloud Only by Choice

Travel history is sensitive, so the product starts from a local-first model. App records remain on the user's devices unless the user deliberately exports them, creates an encrypted backup, or enables optional iCloud Sync. Neither cloud feature sends a separate copy to a tva-operated sync or backup server.

Encrypted backups are initiated by the user and written to a chosen Files provider. Encryption happens on the device before the backup reaches that provider. The backup passphrase is not stored and cannot be recovered, which keeps control with the user but also makes careful passphrase storage essential.

No TaxStayTracker account is required. The privacy model is not presented as a hidden implementation detail; it is part of how the product is meant to be understood and used.

The TaxStayTracker privacy policy explains the data flows, optional permissions, sync boundaries, and user controls in detail.

Why We Built a Dedicated Product Page

Software with location, sync, backup, and legal-adjacent context needs more explanation than an App Store description can comfortably provide. The TaxStayTracker product page is designed as that fuller reference.

It moves from the everyday problem to the actual workflow: optional capture on iPhone, detailed review on iPad, manual corrections, country summaries, maps, and exports. The page also makes the privacy boundaries visible and gives the record-keeping disclaimer the same prominence as the features. Screens use synthetic travel examples so the interface can be shown without exposing a real person's history.

That is the standard we want for product communication: show what the software does, explain the choices that affect user data, and state clearly where the product's authority ends.
